FAQ’S - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

where do you source your natural materials from to use in your processes?

A majority of the natural materials utilized are mindfully foraged locally. Some natural dye extracts such as Cochineal, Logwood, Indigo and others are purchased from outside establishments and businesses, which are known for creating and distributing ethically sourced and manufactured plant dyestuffs. My long term goal is to grow, cultivate and harvest as many materials at home as possible, in an effort to minimize my own impact on climate change and the environment.

where does your fabric come from?

I make an honest effort to purchase fabric yardage as well as pre-sewn garments and accessories from companies and individuals that take pride in honoring the earth and people in a multitude of ways. In addition to sourcing 100% cotton, linen, silk and hemp fabric that is ready to dye and print, I also try my best to purchase second hand locally. I am hoping to find more locations to source textiles from that are created domestically and locally.

where does your paper come from?

The majority of the paper that I use for printing is 100% USA cotton, as well as handmade by other artists. I also save all scrap pieces of paper and fabric, that are then blended up and recycled into new paper to print on!

will natural colors and pigments last on your printed and dyed textiles?

All of the textiles that I either dye or print onto are pre-mordanted with certain (safe) chemical salts that help to prolong the natural color longevity. With proper care, washing and drying, the colors will last longer. Prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight and frequent washing can break down or dull the colors faster, so gentle care and attention to the textiles will ensure a longer life! Since natural pigments are not as permanent as harsh, synthetic colors, they may fade or change over time. Natural colors are in a sense living, that ebb and flow. This makes each piece, print and color unique and all the more special.

how should i care for printed or dyed fabrics purchased from you?

All garments or items that have been either printed or dyed can be cared for by gently hand washing in lukewarm water with a mild soap or detergent. Once washed, it is best to air dry and iron on low if necessary. Please reach out with any questions regarding specific fibers or items.

how long does it take to make your work?

Depending on the process, material and time of year, different works and pieces can be created. Each aspect of the creating process involves multiple steps including brainstorming, sketching, thinking, purchasing, preparing, manipulating, photographing and promoting. Screen prints that are printed through a silk screen mesh are created at a much faster pace than say eco prints on fabric, for example, which entails many more hours and extended patience.

why are some items available but others are not?

Due to the reliance on seasonal vegetation and materials, some handmade products are only available at certain times of the year. This makes each piece uniquely one of a kind, created with love and respect to the current growing season and availability of natural materials that are sustainably foraged or purchased.

how long will my order take to ship?

Orders placed through my website may take up to one week to ship. I am the sole person responsible for creating, packaging and shipping, with love and care taken for each individual order. From late summer to spring, I manage Teach Peace Prints while attending graduate school. During the summer months, I work diligently to stock up on eco printed fabric while the plants are at their peak, while also making an effort to spend time with friends and family. Thank you for your patience and support!

which service do you use for shipping?

All orders are shipped via the US Postal Service, and tracking numbers are emailed to you once your order has been shipped. Once it is under the care of USPS, I am unable to monitor its exact location, besides the shipping and tracking information that is given to me once I drop it off at the post office.

do you ship internationally?

Yes, I am happy to! Shipping charges are the same for both domestic and international orders.

do you accept custom orders?

If you are interested in a custom order, please reach out via the Contact page on my website. I am happy to discuss your idea, and to see if I have the time and resources to go about it. Read more about custom orders here!

can i find your work for sale at any physical locations, or just online?

Please visit the Stockists page in the Shop section of my website for more information on where to locate my products in person!

DO YOU DO PRIVATE EVENTS?
